Tech: Twitter announced a huge initiative. So where’s the spark?

  • I heard on the backchannel that people want me to answer tougher questions. What’ya want to know? Will answer 10. Go.
  • Twitter CEO Evan Williams • In a tweet almost immediately after his keynote address at SXSW yesterday. Williams’ keynote was perhaps the most boring thing in the history of ever, based on audience response. He announced a major new initiative called @anywhere (which sounds just like Apture), yet he did it right away and subjected the audience to an by-all-accounts-awful Umair Haque interview. TechCrunch has some hilarious highlight tweets from the incident. Seems @ev needs to learn a little about suspense. source

World: Thailand’s got a big mess of red blood on their hands

  • If this government is willing to step over our blood it means they really don’t care about us.
  • Red Shirt protester Amphan Nawangern • Regarding the liters of blood dumped on the ground in front of the Thai capital today. The blood was gathered with medical assistance then dumped out en masse. As you might guess, critics of the movement have been skeptical of the bloodletting, calling it a publicity stunt. But in a way it’s kind of hilarious. Just think if something like this happened in the U.S. It’d be the weirdest thing ever. It’s still kind of the weirdest thing ever. source

U.S.: Who won’t vote for the Senate bill in the House, anyway?

  • Among the people voting no: Dennis Kucinich. Not socialist enough for you, dude? As of right now, CNN estimates that 200 representatives will vote against the Senate bill for sure, including at least one Democrat who voted for the original bill (Luiz Gutierrez of Illinois). Six Democrats could switch from yes to no if their concerns aren’t allayed, including prior sticking point Bart Stupak (who wants changes on abortion funding). It’s gonna be a photo finish. source
