U.S.: Chicagoland sheriff: We won’t process these mass foreclosures

  • This is not the lotto. This isn’t something where we roll the dice and say, ‘You know what? Possibly this has been done legally. Maybe it hasn’t, but in the meantime you and your children go find some place to live. There’s plenty of homeless shelters out there.’ We can’t do that.
  • Cook County, Illinois Sheriff Tom Dart • Informing mortgage companies that he WOULD NOT be evicting people due to foreclosure orders. Why? Well, his staff discovered that many of the foreclosure orders coming his way were from so-called “robo signers,” who have been ordering foreclosures en masse without even reading the documents. “This is so outrageous. These poor people are being put through this day in and day out, by people who don’t do their jobs,” he said. “It’s so hard for me to stomach these people. This isn’t just we are taking their bike away, or their car away. This is their house.” Dart, by the way, is noted for his attacks on Craigslist. source

U.S.: Craigslist pimp: “Prostitute yourself or your daughter gets it”

  • What a jerk this guy apparently was. A Minnesota man living in Illinois was arrested over the weekend felony pandering (a.k.a. pimping) charges. Clinton Danner was arrested for the crime after his wife went to authorities to complain about the racket. According to authorities, Danner prostituted her out in eight states, took the money himself, and reportedly threatened bodily harm on her daughter if she didn’t comply. Yikes. Sounds scary. By the way, this guy was caught in Cook County, Illinois. The sheriff of that jurisdiction, Tom Dart, is a pretty huge critic of the site’s adult sections. source

U.S.: Dumping graves to sell the plots ranks pretty high on the soulless list

  • I don’t even know what to tell you about the heartbreaking stories that I’ve been hearing from people, crying hysterically that they’re going through the burial for the second time today.
  • Cook County, Ill. Sheriff Tom Dart • On the effect the excavation of 300 grave sites (for the purpose of reselling the plots) is having on families of the deceased. Four people were arrested for the scheme, which happened at a historic black cemetery in Alsip, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. If you think what he’s saying is bad, just consider the harsh words the families of those affected by the dumping. • source
