Music: Real headline: “Weird Al ponders Lady Gaga parody”

  • I don’t want to give anything away. All you’ve got to do is look at the top of the Billboard charts; that’s what I’m looking at, too.
  • “Weird Al” Yankovic • Discussing the process he uses to make parodies of pop songs. He’s currently in the midst of working on a new album; he hasn’t had a big hit in a few years. (We have to admit that the headline made us think of this.) He claims his job is tougher nowadays because of the high number of parodies online. “It makes it harder to be fresh and unique,” he says. “It’s frustrating, but it does help me step up my game. If I can’t be the first and only, I can be the best.” We just want to see him wearing a Lady Gaga hatsource

Music: Oasis revisited: Here’s five of Noel Gallagher’s best tunes

  • We admit it. Oasis was pretty much our favorite band between about 1995 and 1998 (when we switched over to Radiohead). Noel Gallagher, who just left the band, is a huge reason for that, of course. His songwriting – with just as much T. Rex in the mix as there was Lennon/McCartney – killed on the first two albums. Here’s five of our favorite Noel vocal tracks. Two are B-sides (including “Acquiesce,” which he sang the chorus on), one is a Noel-sung Chemical Brothers single from the era, one is a lean-era tune we’ll actually defend, and of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” source

Culture, Music: The Death Row catalogue; buy it, tick Suge off

  • Why it’s for sale Back in 2006, Suge Knight declared bankruptcy. As part of that whole kit-and-kaboodle, he had to put legendary gangsta rap label Death Row Records up for sale. It goes to auction January 15.
  • Don’t wanna cross him Despite a treasure trove of songs reportedly in the thousands, some potential buyers are supposedly scared that Knight might come to haunt them if they lay their hands on his former assets. Hmm. Wonder why. source
