Politics: Ken Mehlman: Former RNC chairman says he’s gay

  • Next up: Current RNC chairman says he’s an idiot. Ken Mehlman, who was the campaign manager behind George W. Bush’s re-election, revealed the fact to family and friends, according to The Atlantic’s Mark Ambinder. Mehlman, who only recently came to that realization, admits that he was in a place to actually do something to encourage gay marriage in his former role, and regrets that he didn’t. But it doesn’t mean that he can’t encourage it in his private life. source

  • We are going to take a look at them and see whether the option is there or not, but it’s a decision she (Murkowski) has to make. There is an option I know of.
  • A staffer for Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski • On the possibility that Sarah Palin’s most hated enemy will take her campaign out of the Republican Party if she loses to Joe Miller. Murkowski was viciously attacked by Palin in the days prior to the election and still has a ton of money left in her coffers, so she can afford it. There’s a backstory to the Palin thing, too. Frank Murkowski, Lisa’s dad, snubbed Sarah when appointing Lisa to the seat. Later, Palin unseated the elder (and then-unpopular) Murkowski in the 2006 gubernatorial campaign. source

Politics: Guess which Tea Party candidate is backing off all of a sudden

  • The solution isn’t just to paralyze government. Vote for us because you couldn’t possibly vote for them? That’s not enough. It may win some seats, but it won’t take you where you want to be.
  • Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio • Appearing to make a break from the Modern Tea Party script. Why’s that? Well, uh, Charlie Crist went independent and turned Rubio’s plan to be a hard-line conservative candidate upside down. So now he has to say things like this to appease the moderates that Crist is going to win over in the election because he didn’t give in. Remember, guys, the Marco Rubio you’re voting for isn’t the one who says things like this. It’s the one who gave this speech at CPAC. He only moderated himself out of necessity. source

Politics: Here’s a little kibble for Tea Partiers and anti-Tea Partiers

  • The ManifestoDick Armey, former House Majority Leader, published a manifesto in today’s Wall Street Journal (along with Matt Kibbe) explaining what the “Tea Party Movement” wants. It’s epic. “But let us be clear about one thing,” they write. “The tea party movement is not seeking a junior partnership with the Republican Party, but a hostile takeover of it.”

Politics: Newt Gingrich’s perceived racism: Esquire writer’s opening salvo

  • Just before he made the jump-shot crack, one member of the audience called Obama ‘the Kenyan.’ Gingrich said nothing. Another complained about all the shiftless people living on welfare in New Orleans. Gingrich didn’t say anything then, either.
  • Esquire writer John H. Richardson • In an essay about former House speaker Newt Gingrich, who is expected to make a presidential run in 2012. Newt was speaking amongst a group of Southern conservatives, and had made a quip about his basketball prowess: “The more angry we get, the worse it is for Obama. I don’t care how many three-point jump shots he makes.” He was discussing a pickup basketball game he played in Kuwait over two years ago. Richardson uses this lead-in to set up the 8,000-word article he wrote about Gingrich, which, based on that introduction, should make Newt feel like he’s being attacked. (Hat tip Mediaite) source
