Politics, Sports: PETA grabs onto Michael Vick’s collar, doesn’t plan to let go

  • He has served his reduced sentence, but no child should ever look up to Vick as a role model. And for the sake of all the young football fans and all the dogs he electrocuted, drowned, slammed to the ground, and hanged, we are going to watch him like a hawk.
  • A statement from PETA • Regarding the release and conditional reinstatement of Michael Vick, which we’re sure will mean weeks of additional entertainment from animal rights group. SEA KITTENS WHAT?! (Disclosure: When we were laid off, we considered applying for a job with PETA, as we’re longtime vegetarians and are such for animal rights reasons. Plus, PETA is located in our adopted hometown of Norfolk, Va. But just because we have some positive opinions of what they stand for doesn’t mean we’ll agree with their means.) • source

Sports: The NFL to Michael Vick: Don’t screw this up, OK?

The NFL reinstated the man, the myth, the dog-fighting legend himself – though he’ll have over a month on the bench first. source

Sports: Michael Vick can at least count on Terrell Owens’ support

  • The Michael Vick situation, I think, is unfortunate. I think the way the commissioner is handling it is unfair to Michael Vick. I think he’s done the time for what he’s done. I don’t think it’s really fair for him to be suspended four more games. It’s almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground.
  • Brash NFL icon Terrell Owens • Sounding pretty intelligent in arguing against a further suspension for Michael Vick, who went to jail for his ties to a dog-fighting operation. Owens, currently a Buffalo Bill, feels that the players’ union needs to step in and give Vick their support as he tries to return to the NFL and put the situation behind him. • source

Sports: Guess who’s probably coming back to the NFL? Michael Vick

  • A conditional return is in the works, guys. Vick, suspended and sent to jail after the “Bad Newz Kennels” dog-fighting saga – a saga which managed to tick off PETA, anger animal-rights activists and somehow make Michael look worse than his troubled brother Marcus – reportedly talked to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell today. Early word is that he’ll be allowed to practice with a team this season and will be given a four-game suspension. But he’ll be let back into the league. We’re guessing one of the conditions is no more bad newz. source

Sports: Talking soon: Michael Vick, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell

  • Guess Vick may not be the guy speaking at high schools. Formerly-jailed NFL star Michael Vick and Roger Goodell are apparently going to chat soon, according to some of those anonymous sources we shouldn’t put all our faith into. Goodell could cut off Vick’s suspension, keep it going, or do something in-between. Either way, it’s entirely possible we might see Vick, who served hard time for his dog-fighting crimes, in a NFL uniform next season. source

Sports: Michael Vick’s out of federal custody. What’s his next move?

vick0720
  • A.) More football Because he had such a great rep as a clean-cut football player for so long, we’re sure every team in the NFL wants him.
  • B.) Public speaking You know that guy who speaks at high schools and tells you how he ruined his life? Michael Vick could be that guy!
  • C.) Dog fightingUh, well, you know what they say about teaching an old dog new tricks. *shudder* We’ll be here all day, folks. source

Sports: Michael Vick got a the kick in the pants from prison, sez his dad

  • You ever been locked up? You have a lot of time to reflect. Looks like he came through it in one piece. I think he’ll be a better man because of it.
  • Michael Boddie • On his son, Michael Vick, who spent 19 months in jail on dog-fighting charges. Vick is currently serving out the rest of his sentence in home confinement in Hampton, Va. and seems to be a changed man. Boddie and Vick were estranged prior to prison and have since reconciled. • source

Sports: Michael Vick leaves the uncomfortable confines of prison

  • Ohhh, he’s halfway there. Ohhh, livin’ on a prayer. Vick, the former Atlanta Falcons QB, will go into home confinement in Virginia for the last two months of his sentence for dog fighting, with long-term hopes to, you know, actually make it to the NFL again someday. On the plus side, he’s speaking like a remorseful person, which is helping his cause. source
