World: North Korean state media: Jimmy Carter offered condolences

For some reason, right-leaning blogs and news sites are obsessed with this story. Mind you, this is also the same North Korean media which has been using extremely figurative language to describe Dear Leader’s death. source

Politics: Jimmy Carter thinks Mubarak will leave, Suleiman is more honest

  • If I want to know what is going on in the Middle East, I talk to Suleiman. And as far as I know, he has always told me the truth.
  • Former President Jimmy Carter • Never fearful to weigh in on current events, Carter claimed that he’s had more useful interactions with the newly-appointed Vice President of Egypt, Omar Suleiman, than with his boss, saying that Hosni Mubarak talks “like a politician.” Carter also guessed that Mubarak “will have to leave,” a sentiment that might be a cold comfort for the Egyptians who want neither Mubarak, Suleiman, nor anybody positioned in the current regime to be left in power.  source

World: Protip from State Department: Don’t enter North Korea, idiots

  • The state Department timed its new note to just after the end of Jimmy Carter’s visit. In case you’re wondering, you shouldn’t enter North Korea unless you’re Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter. “The North Korean government will prosecute and sentence those who enter the DPRK without proper documentation,” the State Department says. “North Korea’s penalties for knowingly or unknowingly violating North Korean laws are much harsher than are those in the United States for similar offenses.” Carter left the country with Aijalon Mahli Gomes, who was sentenced to eight years of hard labor for entering the country. He entered reportedly for humanitarian reasons. source

Politics: Another ex-prez, Bill Clinton, tackles the Obama racism question

  • If you look at some of the signs, listen some of the rhetoric, there’s no question that’s true. But I believe if he were not an African-American, all the people who were against him on health care who would still be against him. Because they were against me too. He believes that.
  • Former President Bill Clinton • Discussing whether the tone of the health care debate was brought on by racism against Obama. Clinton’s answer is perhaps a bit better than Jimmy Carter’s. He attacks the racism on a general level, but isn’t fooled into thinking that’s the only reason why the Obama administration is getting attacked on health care. • source

Politics: Jimmy Carter gets no media frenzy backup from Obama’s crew

  • We understand that people have disagreements with some of the decisions that we’ve made and some of the extraordinary actions that had to be undertaken by this administration.
  • White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs • On ex-president Jimmy Carter’s assertion that the current political climate is created by Obama’s race. Even if they did agree, it’s not like they’re going to out and say it – the administration’s already bloodthirsty opponents might get their teeth out and start biting. • source

Politics: Jimmy Carter: Calling Obama-haters racist, playing with fire

  • This, my friends, is going to create a major storm of controversy. You have a former president calling most of Obama’s opponents racist. By the middle of next week, he’s going to be dismantled, just like ACORN.source
