Politics: Rush Limbaugh proves (again) why he’s not worthy of NFL ownership

  • If he really thinks that humanity is destroying the planet, humanity is destroying the climate, that human beings in their natural existence are going to cause the extinction of life on Earth — Andrew Revkin. Mr Revkin, why don’t you just go kill yourself and help the planet by dying?
  • Rush Limbaugh • Telling New York Times environmental reporter Andrew Revkin that he should kill himself. It’s kind of a bizarre thing – Limbaugh is so far on the right sometimes that he can’t see why people might look at things like this and just throw up their hands in disbelief. This is not classy. • source

U.S.: Protip from Van Jones: Don’t call Republicans names

  • He got caught calling Republicans #(&^@(^@. Now he’s gone. Van Jones, a White House adviser on environmental issues, had both his radical past (he used to be a Marxist) and name-calling history (see the video) catch up with him in recent weeks. The result? The man is out of a job. It’s telling, by the way, that he was a constant target of Glenn Beck – it’s proof that Beck actually has significant influence. source

Biz, U.S.: The cash-for-clunkers plan is making auto salespeople excited

  • Are we excited about it? Absolutely! We think it is a great opportunity for people to get rid of their clunkers.
  • Cliff Johnson • President of Texas Motors Ford, on the cash-for-clunkers program the Obama administration implemented this year. The plan, which gives consumers up to $4,500 in credit to swap aging vehicles for newer, more fuel-efficient vehicles, has fans all over the map: Consumers, environmentalists, automakers and guys that sell cars for a living. Only the latter category talks like Cliff Johnson, though. • source

Tech: Honey, just stoppin’ by Best Buy…for a new motorcycle.

It’s a new department, so it’s kind of slow.

  • It’s a new department, so it’s kind of slow.
  • West L.A. Best Buy sales associate Jackie Martinez • on what it’s like being in charge of the store’s new electric vehicles department. In May the big-box retailer started selling electric bikes, scooters and Segways at 21 of its stores, and is moving up to electric motorcycles this month. The company is staying mum on when helicopters will be thrown into the mix.  • source

Offbeat: Throwing food as protest: It’s not funny and it gets you arrested

  • What happened? A woman was arrested for throwing goopy green custard at British Business Secretary Peter Mandelson, who was going to attend a meeting on carbon emissions. The protester was upset with a plan to expand London’s Heathrow airport, so she threw a food projectile. What is this, the Three Freaking Stooges? source

  • Analysis The thing about throwing food we don’t get is the fact that it’s pretty much the only form of cartoon violence you can use in real life. You can’t drop a 16-ton weight, you can’t fall down a gorge, you can’t hit an adversary over the head with a mallet. Those things would kill people. But you can throw a freaking pie. Sigh. source

U.S.: Obama flips the Bush endangered species policy like THAT!

  • He just let the experts back into the room. Barack Obama, while celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Interior Department, announced that he was changing a Bush environmental policy finalized in December. The policy allowed federal agencies to decide if projects would endanger species – a major tenet of the Environmental Protection Act – without consulting the experts. Obama, in an announcement, gracefully reversed that policy. This is why Michelle is taken, Jack Cafferty! source

  • We are basically looking now at a future climate that’s beyond anything we’ve considered seriously in climate model simulations.
