Few questions are as controversial as the race question on the Census box. What’s surprising about it is that it started out as complicated (due to slavery), became simple again and then became complicated again (due to political correctness). Racebox.org has gathered all the census sheets from 1790 on. Great historical documents. source
George Takei’s husband has great taste in headwear. The former “Star Trek” star used his Starfleet uniform to get attention for this ad, which encourages same-sex couples to fill out the Census’ marital status section how they feel it should be filled out. It’s an encouraging step for the Census that they’re choosing to count gay couples this way. source
At least that’s what authorities are saying about the death of William E. Sparkman. Back in September, Sparkman was found dead in rural Kentucky. The crime was especially bizarre – he was hung and his body had the word “Fed” scrawled on it. Authorities now say that the case wasn’t a hate crime but a staged suicide in an attempt to earn a life insurance payout. Well, at least he wasn’t mauled by dogs like one unlucky Indiana census worker a few years back. source
