Sports: Sex, abortion, extortion: Rick Pitino’s got a mess on his hands

Several months ago Coach Pitino informed me about the alleged extortion attempt. I’ve now been informed that there may be other details which, if true, I find surprising. My thoughts are with Coach Pitino and his family.
University of Louisville President James Ramsey • Regarding the bizarre mess his star basketball coach, Rick Pitino, has found himself in. Pitino himself is actually clean and hasn’t been charged with a crime. But Karen Sypher, a waitress at a Louisville restaurant, allegedly had sex with him (which Pitino admits), forced him to pay for an abortion for her, and – years later – tried to extort him by alleging rape charges against him. You know, pretty much the kind of thing you don’t want to have spill out into the press. Best of luck, Rick – it sounds like you’ve got a lot to deal with at the moment. • source

World: Iran’s Guardian Council is ready to listen to the opposition

We decided to personally invite the esteemed candidates and those who have complaints regarding the election to take part in an extraordinary session of the Guardian Council to discuss their concerns with the members directly so that we will be able to make a decision.
Abbas Ali Kadkhodai • A spokesman for the Guardian Council, which is investigating allegations of fraud in the Iranian election. They’ve agreed to meet with the four presidential candidates, including Mir Hossein Moussavi, whose supporters have largely been leading the opposition protests. Whether this will change anything is anyone’s guess. • source

Music: Chris Brown finally speaks out on allegations

Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person.
Chris Brown • Through his spokesman, in response to the allegations that he hit his girlfriend, Rihanna, last weekend. He didn’t say much else, except to note that he didn’t say anything on his Facebook page about the charges. • source

Music: The Chris Brown/Rihanna saga continues

In Chris Brown’s corner … Amid allegations that Brown was involved in a domestic violence incident before the Grammys on Sunday, the “Got Milk” ad campaign will nix their print ads with the pop singer. Brown already had his ad campaign with Doublemint put on hold.
In Rihanna’s corner … While rumors are swirling that the victim of the the alleged domestic violence was the “Umbrella” superstar, Rihanna’s camp has been mum. However, she has canceled a number of post-Grammy appearances, most recently in Indonesia. source
