Culture: Adam Lambert’s “Good Morning America” turned into an “Early Show”

The sting of the American Music Awards is just a little too much for ABC, but that isn’t deterring rival CBS from getting in on some simulated fellatio action. source

Culture: Adam Lambert may have lost “Idol,” but he could lead Queen instead

  • It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.
  • Queen lead guitarist Brian May • Discussing the possibility that Adam Lambert, the nearly-coulda-been “Idol” contestant, could lead his band, which has been sort of floating in the ether since Freddie Mercury died in 1991. (The feeling’s mutual, by the way, so it’s not just some old guy talking about something that won’t happen.) Why the heck not. Might as well ruin two careers at once. • source

Culture, Politics: Clay Aiken gets the gloves out in “American Idol” criticism

  • The show was different then, and folks made it in seasons 1-3 because they were ‘real’ people who happened to sing/entertain well. But, somewhere along the way, AI stopped being about real people.
  • “American Idol” Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken • On the slow decline, in his opinion, of the show. Aiken suggests that Kris Allen’s surprise victory wasn’t all that surprising, because Adam Lambert (who he called “contrived”) seemed to already know it all and fans are looking for “real” people to win. More damning for the show: Aiken, one of the shows earliest breakout stars, only watches once a season now, and then just to see how the sets have changed. • source

Music: We’ve avoided “American Idol” this season. But it’s near the end.

  • Rocker Adam Lambert, who’s wowed the judges repeatedly and reduced Paula Abdul to tears on at least one occasion. And who may or may not be gay. But really, who cares? source
  • Kris Allen, the Jason Mraz-ish alt-popper who’s sung songs from “Once” and got a key performance last week out of an acoustic rendition of Kanye West’s “Heartless.” source
