Tiller started Women’s Health Care Services in response to the outrage he felt after hearing a tale of an illegal abortion, done after his father declined the procedure, in which the mother died. Obama is pro-choice, which meant that he became a lightning rod when the university picked him as commencement speaker. With the speech, Obama seemed to soften the protests against him. • source
