Tech: Blackberry’s Curve > iPhone 3G? How did that happen?

  • Blame it on more carriers and better deals. RIM is glowing in the fact that its Curve, still a well-received phone even without the press of the iPhone, managed to beat the iPhone in 1st quarter sales. Part of it was Verizon, who offered help in the form of a buy-one-get-one-free sale for Blackberries. So, not only is the Curve at the top of the handheld market, but two other Blackberry phones grace the top five. Not a bad racket. source

Biz, Tech: Microsoft and Apple: Two suitors fighting for Verizon’s attention

  • MS has a phone of its own it’s trying to get Verizon to sell. As we’re sure you heard, then fawned over, Apple apparently has some cool new products that it’s offering exclusively to Verizon. But they’re not alone. Microsoft wants a piece of that vertical horizon action, because Verizon is everything they want and everything they need. Biz, Tech: My, how success changes things: Verizon wants the iPhone

  • “High-level” discussions USA Today reports that Apple and Verizon have been talking for a few months about the possibility of bringing the iPhone to the platform. It’s a severe change for the wireless provider, who famously did not want to bend to Apple’s standards a few years back. source

  • AT&T should freak out If Apple brings the iPhone to another platform, AT&T should be plenty scared – 40% of their new mobile customers last quarter bought iPhones, a massive chunk of the pie. And as many don’t like AT&T’s service, it could be a coup for Verizon. source
