Tech: The new search engine in town, Bing, isn’t doing too shabby

  • No worries, they’re still dominant: Google’s market share is still at an overwhelmingly huge 71.47%. source
  • Microsoft’s just-launched Bing search engine comes on strong with a 16.28% market share. source

Tech: Wow. CNet says Microsoft’s Bing search engine tops Google

  • Google keeps improving in the area of in-search collation and display as well, but Bing makes Google look complacent, and that’s not good for Google. For the moment, Bing’s on top in this game.
  • CNet reviewer Rafe Needleman • On Microsoft’s Bing, the funnily-named new search engine designed to compete with Google big time. Needleman says Bing doesn’t consistently top Google, but it does it enough to make it look competitive. That’s OK, though; Google should be fine. Heck, MS totally got upstaged by Google today. But that said, Bing launches fully on June 3 keep an eye out. • source

Politics, Tech: Are Google Profiles a good idea? We argue yes.

  • Google Profiles creates an easily-searchable public page for you and your life. It’s not a new concept – Yahoo has done this for years – but Google has integrated it with other Web services really well, and it makes you easier to find online. source
  • Privacy advocates will probably complain. Some jerks will probably say that Facebook already does this quite well. We say this is a good idea because it separates the social networking from the personal aspect. Plus, it’s simple. Simple is good. source

Tech: For 40 minutes, Google thought every site was malware. LOL.

  • “What happened? Very simply, human error.” That’s the message from Google VP Marissa Mayer regarding a hilariously disastrous error in the search engine. Essentially, someone accidentally turned on a switch that makes every page with ‘/’ as a root (i.e. every page on the Internet) verify as positive for malware early yesterday morning. And then Google turned it off after surprising everyone. And we LOL’ed. source
