Culture, World: M.I.A. calls out clothing companies with Sri Lankan ties

  • Since the end of the war in Sri Lanka (and heck, even during it), M.I.A. has been outspoken against human rights abuses happening there – and has strongly supported the Tamil rebels who lost. source
  • The pop star took to her Twitter feed to inform her 30,000+ readers of clothing companies who produce clothes in Sri Lanka – and many of them are brands you wear, like Nike and Ralph Lauren. source

Culture, Politics: Comment: Rihanna and the way the human mind works

  • A good number of people have been disappointed by us today. Why? Because they found our site on Google using the phrase “Rihanna nude.” Now, it’s bad enough that the pop star is now all over the Internet in nude poses, but considering the amount of bad buzz following the star this year, it does scream a degree of kicking someone while they’re down. But much like Paris Hilton a few years ago, a bunch of guys (and hey, maybe girls) are looking for purely exploitative kicks. Not to criticize too harshly, but aren’t there other things you could be looking for on the Internet instead? source

Culture: Chris Brown isn’t a Doublemint twin anymore – for now

  • The gum company plays wait and see. Brown is part of one of their current advertising campaigns, and one of his ads aired during the Grammys last night – an event Brown missed due to being arrested on assault charges (possibly involving his girlfriend Rihanna, though neither side is talking). The gum company plans to give the pop star the benefit of the doubt, but for now is suspending their ad campaign with him. source

Culture: Do they really want to hurt Boy George? They made him cry.

  • When I walked into the cell I saw this fat, bald bloke sitting in the corner crying like a baby. He was shaking like a leaf, a total wreck. He kept sobbing over and over, ‘I can’t go to jail – I’ll be killed.’
  • Richard Lyttle • A British man who shared a jail cell with former pop star Boy George. George was sentenced to 15 months for false imprisonment of a male escort. We admit, this whole incident makes us feel a little grimy on the outside. • source
