In the midst of our greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, the American people were hoping that Congress would begin to confront the great challenges we face. That was, after all, what last November’s election was all about.
Barack Obama • in his weekly radio address. Obama has pushed hard for the $800+ billion stimulus bill to pass, particularly in the last week, when he’s seen resistance from Republican senators. They’re trying to accomodate, though: Senators debated the details of the plan in a rare Saturday session. • source
He’s granting interviews to everyone. Barack Obama, who’s pretty popular right now, wants to get his face on TV as much as possible in the next couple of days to push forward his economic stimulus plan. He’s facing some resistance from in Congress due to Republicans complaining about added pork. He wants the stimulus to pass, dudes. source
George Voinovich of Ohio to peace out. Voinovich will step down after the 2010 election, noting that, despite his desire to serve his country, he wants to spend more time with his family. He’s the fourth republican to say they’re stepping down at the end of their term. A number of names are cropping up to replace Voinovich in the U.S. Senate, most unlikely being Joe the Plumber. Isn’t it bad enough that Joe’s a war correspondent? source
