Politics: Democrats seek to overturn Citizens United via constitutional amendment

  • Fighting back against “Citizens United:” Senate Democrats, led by Tom Udall, have introduced a constitutional amendment meant to blunt the effects of Citizen’s United, the Supreme Court decision that paved the way for unlimited, undisclosed campaign contributions by corporations. The amendment wouldn’t directly overturn CU, but rather give congresses–both federal and state–the authority to regulate campaign contributions and expenditures. Like most proposed constitutional amendments, it probably won’t get anywhere close to ratification, but hey, it rallies the base, right? source

Music: Guy offers Weezer $10 million he doesn’t have if they break up

  • Every year, Rivers Cuomo swears that he’s changed, and that their new album is the best thing that he’s done since “Pinkerton,” and what happens? Another pile of crap like ‘Beverly Hills’ or ‘I’m Your Daddy.’ This is an abusive relationship, and it needs to stop now.
  • Weezer hater James Burns • Explaining why he started a campaign to convince the band to break up, with the help of $10 million in forthcoming donations. Why would he do that, you ask? Because he hates Weezer, and did even when they were artistic titans. “But this isn’t about me,” he writes. “This is about the Weezer fans. They are our brothers and sisters, our friends, our lovers.” How much support does this guy have, anyway? $160. No zeroes after that. $160. From six people. That’s it. We don’t see this happening. source

Politics: Christine O’Donnell: Don’t let my “youthful fervor” dissuade you

  • She was REALLY into her beliefs in her 20s. Delaware’s Republican Senate candidate did some things she regrets, except instead of getting a tattoo and digging way deep into her rocker chick phase, she went ultra-conservative and said some really insane things about AIDS and stuff. So now she’s backing off. “I was in my 20s and very excited and passionate about my newfound faith,” she said. “But I can assure you, my faith has matured. And when I go to Washington D.C., it will be the Constitution on which I base all of my decisions, not my personal beliefs.” Will that be enough to convince people? source
