Politics, U.S.: It’s been a while since Bobby Jindal’s come up. Here’s an update.

  • My answer to the question is very simple: ‘Do you want the president to fail?’ It depends on what he is trying to do.
  • Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal • Talking to members of his party last night about whether Rush Limbaugh’s stance on Barack Obama is worthy of criticism. Jindal, post-response, is still dipping his feet into the possibility of a presidential run. • source

U.S.: Oh yeah, we heard Obama was on TV tonight

  • It took many years and many failures to lead us here. And it will take many months and many different solutions to lead us out. There are no quick fixes, and there are no silver bullets.
  • President Barack Obama • In a rare prime-time news conference tonight, where he defended his budget, spoke honestly about the challenges the country faces, focused on the economy and those pesky AIG bonuses, discussed a couple of other things (because, remember, the economy is but one problem this country faces), and pre-empted “American Idol.” Sounds like he filled a lot into a single hour. • source

Biz, U.S.: The government is getting private help with those toxic assets

  • “We simply – we simply need them.” Christina Romer, an economic adviser for Obama, chatted with “Fox News Sunday” about the nature of “toxic,” i.e. uncertain, assets. Private investors are doing the administration a favor, she says, by not forcing the government to carry all of the weight of the toxic assets. Good for them. We’ll buy those investors a beer (probably a PBR; times are tough) next time we see them in our local dive bar. source

Politics, U.S.: Don’t expect much more bailout support from Congress

  • AIG has become the straw that broke the camel’s back. It pushed people off the edge.
  • Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. • On the possibility of another bailout plan getting through Congress. With support of the treasury low and constituent criticism high, Timothy Geithner and Barack Obama may have more luck pushing an elephant through the halls of Congress. • source

U.S., World: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei thinks Obama is full of it on Iran

  • He insulted the Islamic Republic of Iran from the first day. If you are right that change has come, where is that change? What is the sign of that change? Make it clear for us what has changed.
  • Ayatollah Ali Khamenei • Iran’s supreme leader, on Barack Obama’s well-thought-out olive branch to the people of Iran. The Ayatollah, simply put, thinks Obama isn’t being honest. • source

Offbeat, U.S.: A Special Olympian just dared Obama. It’s on now!

  • He bowled a 129. I bowl a 300. I could beat that score easily.
  • Kolan McConiughey • One of the top Special Olympian bowlers in the world. Dude’s bowled five perfect games since 2005, which totally puts Obama (and most of the rest of us) to shame. Obama’s first major verbal slip-up of his presidency doesn’t even make sense when talking about this dude. • source

Politics, U.S.: Analysis: Is Obama really the great presidential communicator?

  • But the discipline and strategic focus of the campaign have yet to move into the White House. The story of the day often catches the president flat-footed or on the defensive — and regularly undercut by fellow Democrats.
  • Jim Vandehei & Mike Allen • Discussing Obama’s communication skills in Politico. They note that while he’s still great in public, a different type of communication skill is required for the Oval Office. We aren’t so sure about this one, but it’s a unique argument. • source

U.S., World: Obama also appears to be ready for image rehab – with Iran

In a well-timed and unprecedented gesture, our president sent a video olive branch to Iran. Iran’s flattered but wants action. source
