Politics, Tech: OK, who are the crazy hackers keeping Andrew Sullivan down?

  • The Atlantic is under digital attack. Between a tweet and a two-sentence post on Andrew Sullivan’s always-interesting blog, we know that some nefarious group is apparently keeping the smart words of the blogging guru off the Interweb via a Denial of Service attack. Since it’s hard to get into, here’s the post recreated: “The Atlantic is struggling to keep the site up despite what seems to be a digital attack. Please be persistent in trying to reload.” Seriously, what did Andrew Sullivan ever do to you? source

Politics, World: Egyptian president didn’t like Netanyahu’s speech very much

  • Netanyahu’s demand that Palestinians recognize Israel as the Jewish state is ruining the chance for peace.
  • Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak • Who criticized Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech for seemingly strange reasons – because, uh, Netanyahu dared to say that Palestine should accept two states, and one of them should be Israel. Because, seriously, why would the Prime Minister of Israel suggest something crazy like that? What, is he crazy or something? • source

Politics, U.S.: The CIA’s Leon Panetta: What’s up with Dick Cheney’s motives?

  • When you read behind it, it’s almost as if he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point. I think that’s dangerous politics.
  • CIA Director Leon Panetta • Criticizing former Vice President Dick Cheney for his approach to politics. In other news, Panetta fired Mitchell Jessen & Associates, the psychologist-led firm that suggested they start using the harsh interrogation techniques Cheney supports. • source

Politics, Tech: Dear TechCrunch: Your journalism sucks sometimes. OK?

  • One of the Techcrunch‘s bloggers, MG Siegler, has become known for somewhat transparent shoddy journalism of late, but the worst example yet may be his tearing apart of Microsoft’s gesture by claiming that it all looks like hooey to him. If you’re gonna post something, do your homework or don’t post at all. OK? source

Politics, World: Iran’s election crisis has made at least some things clear

  • Mr. Ahmadinejad’s victory has the merit of clarifying the situation within the Islamic Republic. The choice is now between a repressive regime based on a bizarre and obscurantist ideology and the prospect of real change and democratization. There is no halfway house.
  • Conservative commentator Amir Taheri • In a column for the Wall Street Journal, where he points out how Iran’s election has made the line between democracy and sorta-democracy clear. In other words, sorta-democracy doesn’t exist. Taheri ends his column by saying, regarding Ahmadinejad and his hard-line approach to victory, “hubris may turn out to be his undoing.” Hopefully it isn’t ours. • source

  • Health care heart attack On “Face the Nation,” Sen. Mitch McConnell brings out the doom and gloom of the possible nationalization of the health care system. Just like Canada.

Culture, Politics: Carrie Prejean: Still crazy, but now she’s talking to Larry King

  • This isn’t about appearances. This isn’t about a breach of contract. This is about Keith Lewis not agreeing with the stance that I took on saving traditional marriage. And from day one, he wanted me out.
  • Former Miss California Carrie Prejean • Who is still claiming that the whole incident around her firing had to do with her answer about gay marriage in the Miss USA pageant, not the completely juvenile way she acted towards Keith Lewis after the incident. The way she describes Lewis in this interview does not match the e-mails at all. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking to an army of Larry Kings – that fact will not change. • source

Politics, World: U.S.: We want diplomacy with Iran, no matter who wins

  • The president’s decision to engage Iran was not based on a particular electoral result. We are going to engage the Iranian government whether it is led by one faction or the other.
  • A senior State Department official • Regarding what’s next for the U.S. and Iran after the presidential election. As you might have heard, Obama wants an olive branch with a country that the U.S. has historically not been very friendly with. That won’t change, no matter who wins. • source

Politics, Tech: Prediction: Barry Diller is a money-hungry net neophyte

  • I absolutely believe the internet is passing from its free days into a paid system.
  • InterActiveCorp CEO Barry Diller • On the future of the Internet, which he claims will be filled with pricing structures everywhere. Pretty much everyone at the conference he was at disagreed with him – including everyone in this article we linked. Idiot. • source
