U.S.: Screwed-over minorities finally unscrewed by legislative process

  • $3.4
    billion
the amount headed to Native Americans over land trust royalty mismanagement by the government
  • $1.15
    billion
the amount headed to black farmers unfairly refused loans by the Agriculture Department source
  • » The worst part about the mess: The cases dragged on for much longer than they should have partly because the Senate could not get a majority vote on funding either of these settlements over a number of years. Culture: Ronni Chasen’s murder quickly headed towards circus territory

  • The most indication is that it was targeted. A random killing will not happen like this, five shots in a chest area, and it seems like it wasn’t just a random killing.
  • Beverly Hills Mayor Jimmy Delshad • Expressing a belief that Ronni Chasen’s death was no accident, and that it was a targeted killing. Problem is, the police doesn’t back this description.  Chasen, who was working as the publicist for “Burlesque” the night that she was murdered,  died under bizarre circumstances, yes, but saying things like that gets out the tabloid crazies. “This type of media coverage can only jeopardize the integrity of the investigation,” said the city’s police chief, David Snowden. Come on! Don’t ruin our fun so quickly, David! We wanted to spend weeks working up conspiracy theories! source

World: NATO’s plan for getting out of Afghanistan pushed back a little

  • good NATO has announced a firm exit date to finally end military operations in Afghanistan.
  • bad That firm exit date isn’t until 2014, well into Michael Bloomberg’s first term. (Kidding!)
  • worse Obama won’t commit to that date. Hmm. Wasn’t this war supposed to end in 2011? source
