U.S.: The status of Roland Burris, wannabe Illinois senator

  • A promising meeting Burris met with Harry Reid today, and the meeting went well. Reid praised Burris as “candid” and “forthright,” and opposition against his joining the senate seemed to thaw. Burris was blocked from entering the Senate chambers yesterday.
  • What Burris needs to do First, he must get approval from the Illinois Supreme Court to be seated without the signature of Secretary of State Jesse White. Secondly, he must appear in front of the state legislature and discuss his ties to Rod Blagojevich, the embattled governor who appointed him. He’ll likely do that tomorrow. He might just pull it off. source
