Politics: Lisa Chan, actress in racist Hoekstra ad, apologizes for her role

  • I am deeply sorry for any pain that the character I portrayed brought to my communities. As a recent college grad who has spent time working to improve communities and empower those without a voice, this role is not in any way representative of who I am. It was absolutely a mistake on my part and one that, over time, I hope can be forgiven. I feel horrible about my participation and I am determined to resolve my actions.
  • Lisa Chan • Apologizing for her starring role in Pete Hoekstra’s racist campaign ad, which aired in Michigan during the Super Bowl. Chan took a lot of heat following the airing of the ad, as has Hoekstra, obviously — what was launched clearly as an attention grab for his campaign, likely to try to spur fundraising, has now backfired into a full-on disaster, with his incumbent opponent opening up a 14-point lead over him. We imagine it can’t make things any easier for the star of the ad to now be issuing such a public mea culpa about her involvement; it would be interesting to hear more from Chan about how this ad was produced and how she got involved with it, but there’s no way to know yet whether such details will be coming. source
