  • Press Secretary Robert Gibbs • On Dick Cheney’s recent criticism of the Obama administration. Dude’s totally a straight-shooter. When asked whether this was the administration’s official position on Cheney, he responded, “Sometimes I ask forgiveness, rather than for permission.” Nice show, chap. Bush’s press secretaries were never near this off-the-cuff. • source

Biz, U.S.: CNBC’s Rick Santelli: He’s Internet famous now

  • 1.7 million Internet viewers can’t be wrong! Santelli, who went on a memorable (though polarizing) tirade against Obama’s foreclosure plan on Thursday, has drawn millions of viewers and a White House response to all that stuff he said. Press secretary Robert Gibbs bluntly proclaimed that Santelli “doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” Which should be a compliment to him at this point. Who knows? He may get his Chicago Tea Party yet. source

U.S.: Well, isn’t that a dramatic quote about jobs and the economy

  • Last month the economy lost 598,000 jobs. That is the equivalent of losing every job in the state of Maine.
  • Robert Gibbs • White House press secretary, on the economic crisis. This quote may have been a not-so-subtle ploy by Gibbs to get Maine’s two Republican senators on board for the economic stimulus plan. If nothing else, it’s striking, dude. • source
