U.S.: Occupy Wall Street shows up at “Law & Order: SVU” filming

  • There are certainly some folks who feel really offended by the attempt to kind of use this very real, very living movement, this economic justice movement that’s making real change for working families in this country, to use it in some kind of story line in this dramatic cop show. There are probably other folks among us who think it’s just a fun excuse to get together and share in public.
  • Occupy Wall Street press team member Ian Shan • Explaining why Occupy protesters raided the filming of a Zuccotti Park-themed “Law & Order: SVU” episode late last night. The actual Occupy protesters heard about the protest and decided to stage a “mockupy” protest at the event, which sounds like an amazing idea. And much like a real Occupy protest, police cleared out the scene around 1 a.m. last night. This sounds like the most amazing idea, ever — hopefully most did it with a sense of humor instead of malicious intent. source

World: Tell us how you really feel: Sarkozy, Obama rip Netanyahu on hot mic

  • Sarkozy French leader Nicolas Sarkozy, at the G20 economic conference last week, had what he thought was a candid exchange with Barack Obama when he said this about Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu: “I cannot bear Netanyahu, he’s a liar.” Damn.
  • Obama In an effort to sympathize with his diplomatic friend, Obama reportedly responded like this: “You’re fed up, but I have to deal with him every day.” While press officials heard the conversation, it seems unlikely that there was a recording of the (amusing) exchange. source

Politics: Iowa debate: Herman Cain’s favorite poet is Pokemon, apparently

  • A poet once said, ‘life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it’s never easy when there’s so much on the line.’
  • 2012 GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain • In his closing remarks in last night’s debate. “A poet” is great and all, but it’d sure be nice to know who the poet was. Well … this is where it gets fun. See, the “poet” in this case appears to be Donna Summer, and the poet’s muse was — get this — the soundtrack to the modern classic “Pokemon 2000.” And he’s gotten the quote’s attribution wrong before, once referring to it as the theme song to the 2000 Sydney Olympics. (It wasn’t.) Life can be a challenge, indeed. source
