Culture: Comeback trail: Lindsay Lohan’s “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig

  • Set your DVRs now: Although she hasn’t been on the show since 2006 (when her personal problems started affecting her work), Lindsay Lohan will host “Saturday Night Live” for the fourth time on March 3. Could this be her first step back into acting? She hasn’t made a movie since 2010’s “Machete,” but based on their recent tweets, Lohan and her mother are both excited about this being a real corner-turning opportunity for the 25-year-old. Hopefully this won’t be as terrible as it could be. The musical guest will be Jack White, after all. source

Music: Carl Sagan is so cool Jack White covers his hit records

  • Jack White is releasing a cover of “A Glorious Dawn,” a Carl Sagan-meets-autotune-meets-mashup ditty (featuring special guest Stephen Hawking), which is kind of like “Autotune the News” for famous scientists. What’s crazy is that it’s a full-featured pop song with multiple choruses. And now White’s covering it and releasing it as a 7″ vinyl record. Neat. (Note how we completely ignored the other news at the link. There’s a reason for that.) source

Music: They’ve been silent, but: Lots of good news on the White Stripes front

  • marriage Meg White, the half of the White Stripes that only has one main gig, is getting married to fellow Detroit rock royalty – Jackson Smith, son of Patti Smith and Fred “Sonic” Smith (the late MC5 guitarist). White has been married once before – to the guy mentioned in the box to the right.
  • music Jack White, the half of the White Stripes that appears to always be working, recently noted in an interview that the band will be getting back together soon to record a new album, to come out next year. Good thing too – after their last tour went kaput, the band’s future seemed hazy.
