Tech: Crazy but true: Google wants to be your cable TV provider in Kansas City

  • then In May 2011, Google made Kansas City, Missouri the second location of their highly-sought-after Fiber Project. The deal? A reasonably-priced one gigabyte-per-second fiber optic internet connection for roughly 50,000 to 500,000 people. Google: Your internet company.
  • now Google just filed for a video franchise license with the Missouri Public Service Commission. Reports claim Google will do something similar in Kansas next week — suggesting Google’s ready to tackle Time Warner Cable on the television front, too. source

Tech: Google TV’s new remote control a multi-button monstrosity

  • Would you use this thing to control your television? We’re not sure either. It looks like an epically confusing controller along the lines of the Atari Jaguar‘s epic 17-button monstrosity. But a recent Nightline report on Google TV briefly revealed this thing to the world. Wow, that’s a lot of buttons, isn’t it? source

Tech: Google’s making a TV? Hey, why the heck not?

  • They’ll be conspiring with Intel and Sony on the project. Google’s ready to take itself (and the rest of the Web) into your living room with the still-under-wraps project. Much like everything else they do, the plan is the make the platform open using Android OS. They also plan on working with Logitech to come up with a tiny keyboard for the remote (which could be awesome or lame – jury’s still out). Either way, this makes the comparably underpowered Apple TV seem like last year’s news. source
