Offbeat: Secret Services loses woman’s car, doesn’t help her find it

  • dumb A woman (illegally) parks in a handicapped spot outside of a dinner where Obama’s speaking; a police officer says it’s OK for her to park.
  • dumberUpon leaving, she learns that her car has been moved by Secret Service agents – and they don’t know where they put it. They can’t find it.
  • dumbestThe woman, after having given up and run through red tape, finds it herself the next day – less than a block away from the convention center. source
  • » How far did WaPo commenters read? Rather than get upset about the fact that the Secret Service lost her freaking car, they criticized the woman for parking in a handicapped spot, even though the tag was for her husband. Not to underplay the traffic violation, but the Secret Service lost somebody’s freaking car.

Culture: Porn stars: We’re starving; pay for our greatest resource, porn

  • “This is my serious face.” No irony exists in this video, created a few months ago by a porn-industry group called the Free Speech Coalition and featuring numerous porn stars and behind-the-scenes figures, whose wholesome livelihoods are getting greatly damaged by the so-called “Tube” sites that offer a similar product for free. Apparently the popularity of those sites have knocked porn-company revenues down by a third or more. Which is why these porn stars decided to put their clothes on for a change. They’re all ready for the congressional hearing. source

Culture: Mark your calendar: Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart’s dueling rallies

  • “Rally to Restore Sanity” Great angle for a rally on Stewart’s part. Perhaps this might inspire a bunch of reasonable people to make a pitch for political reasonableness. On October 30th, we expect to see no “Don’t Tread on Me” flags.

  • “March to Keep Fear Alive” “People should book their hotel rooms now or their children might turn gay!” That’s some pretty stellar fearmongering there, Stephen Colbert. OK, who wants to go? Julius has a couch with your name on it! source

Politics: Guy dies, wants you to donate to Obama’s 2012 opponent

  • There really isn’t much more to add to this. But let’s just say that Mr. Donald Charles Unsworth really was passionate about fighting against that Obama jerk. Perhaps too passionate. To friends and neighbors of this Rome, Georgia, resident, don’t send flowers. Drop a money bomb. source

Offbeat: Pedobear: Misguided police department makes 4chan’s day

  • But he’s so friendly-looking!No matter. The San Luis Obispo (Calif.) County Sheriff’s Department has warned parents to keep an eye out for this bear, who is described as having a “lecherous nature” and as having been adopted by real pedophiles as a symbol of um, being pedophiles. The article goes on to say that, “Although there have been no reported sightings of the image on the Central Coast, individuals dressed in the bear costume and car decals have been seen in Southern California.” Police don’t understand the Internet! source

Cats!: Gangsta cats are our favorite kind, BTW. What what?

  • Amber Nettles’ cat Pyle has enough street cred to show up in an Ice-T video. Yeah, we said it. And we wouldn’t be surprised if Pyle was sporting an AK, either. That said, Amber’s one of our favorite people and a key inspiration for us doing Catstravaganza again. (Thanks!) Anyway, she also sent a couple more pics our way:
  • Pyle looks bored and tiredWhich, honestly, is how we look after reading yet another story from Mashable. That site sucks, guys! They have no content!
  • Puddin’s all about the whiskersThis fuzzy little guy has some of the more notable whiskers we’ve seen in two years of doing this. Besides ours, that is.

Cats!: IKEA + Cats = Your Living Room (and also this cool ad)

  • Ad people get to have more fun than you. See, a British ad firm working for IKEA got to fill one of their stores with a bunch of cats and tape it. Can you believe that this is someone’s job?Awww. (Thanks Andrew Ottoson) source

Tech: TechCrunch relives the early Twttr days with an old-school logo

  • There has to be a good story behind this decision. TechCrunch redid its logo today, but they redid it to look exactly like Twitter’s original logo, launched way back in 2006. Arrington posted an article noting how he was sort of wrong about how Twitter’s success would play out, and it’s a bit hilarious to see how off-base some of the commenters were. Blast from the past, indeed. source
