World: Israel’s Lieberman may face graft charges

  • Avigdor’s looming legal troubles: Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman learned from Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein today that he may face charges of graft, a tarnish that could potentially force his resignation. It’s alleged that Lieberman used shell companies, among other methods, to illictly rake in nearly $1,200,000 while serving in public office. Lieberman was already a controversial figure in Israeli politics — you may remember his proposal that all Israeli citizens pledge a loyalty oath or have their voting rights revoked. source

World: Moussa Koussa done working for Gaddafi’s regime

  • Gaddafi suffers high-profile defection: This man, Moussa Koussa, was the Foreign Minister in Libya. That ended today as Koussa, who according to Britain’s Foreign Office was “one of the most senior figures in Gaddafi’s government,” defected from Libya and flew into the UK’s Farnborough Airport. British officials say that he left of his own free will, and that he was no longer willing to act as an international representative of Gaddafi’s Libya. With recent reports suggesting tough losses for the rebels (while world leaders mull more active arms support), any news of Gaddafi’s officials defecting makes us hopeful for an internal weakening of his command. source

  • So let’s say you’re going to get fired today. There are many ways your bosses could do it, from pink slips to boardroom hatchet jobs. But none of them might be as bad as what happened to Manouchehr Mottaki today. See, Mottaki, Iran’s foreign minister, was in FREAKING SENEGAL doing his job when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad decided to drop the axe. And while Ahmadinejad has wanted to do this for a while, he hasn’t been able to thanks to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader. Yo, Mahmoud: At least bring him home first before you do the deed. You ain’t no George Clooney, and this ain’t no “Up In The Air.” source
