Politics: Jan Brewer vs. Obama: An airport meeting turns into an epic battle

  • She wrote some things in her book he didn’t like: The tough-on-immigration Arizona governor, who was not particularly happy with the way the president treated her in a much-talked-about-at-the-time 2010 meeting, wrote about it in her new book “Scorpions for Breakfast,” and Obama didn’t like what she said. So, last night, when Obama got into Phoenix, this happened. “I will say that a picture is what it is,” she said. “I must say, I was not hostile. I was trying to be very, very gracious. I respect the office of the president, and I would never be disrespectful in that manner.” What we would give to hear that conversation up close. (AP Photo) source

Inside this man’s middle finger are the flames of a revolution. Inside this man’s middle finger are the dreams of thousands of Egyptians. Inside this man’s middle finger is all that needs to be said. source

Politics: John McCain’s been really angry lately for some reason

  • I don’t think this will leave any scars. I just think we leave this fight knowing that I was right and he was wrong. I mean, it’s as simple as that.
  • Sen. Joe Lieberman • Explaining his feeling on the flare-up John McCain had over yesterday’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal. While the law’s passage was otherwise calm, McCain (who led the dissent against repeal) got angry at least a few times yesterday, mainly because he wanted more time to debate the bill (which he got without having to be angry about it). Anyway, the former presidential candidate went a little off the deep end, bemoaning “this bizarro world that the majority leader has been carrying us in,” and basically being kind of a jerk about the whole thing. So, this is what it’s like to be a maverick, eh? source

Culture: Dear anonymous sources: Please don’t anger Sarah Palin

  • This is the torrent of rage that builds up when you piss sarah Palin off: “I suppose I could play their immature, unprofessional, waste-of-time game, too, by claiming these reporters and politicos are homophobe, child molesting, tax evading, anti-dentite, puppy-kicking, chain smoking porn producers…really, they are… I’ve seen it myself…but I’ll only give you the information off-the-record, on deep, deep background; attribute these ‘facts’ to an ‘anonymous source’ and I’ll give you more.” Yikes. We’re scared. *cower* source

World: French people don’t like it when you mess with their pensions

No, these guys aren’t going to a Daft Punk show (OK, they might be later) … they’re steel workers protesting France’s possible new austerity measures. And they’re angry. source

Culture: Brazilian backlash: Sylvester Stallone pisses off an entire country

  • Bad move, old action star. Stallone, shown here with Jason Statham in the upcoming (and still awesome-sounding) “The Expendables,” said a couple of stupid things during Comic-Con. Here’s what he said about shooting the movie in the country to get Twitter in a tizzy: “You can shoot people and blow things up and they say, ‘Thank you! Take a monkey home with you!'” source

Politics: Anderson Cooper on oil spill media zones: He sounds angry

  • Know what’s been missing from CNN all these months? Stuff like this. The network’s real problem is not that it doesn’t have yakkers, but its model has become tired and unemotional. And you can hear it in Cooper’s voice here. He’s super-emotional, in a “mad as hell and can’t take it anymore” sorta way. Give us a reason to care, CNN, and we’ll come back.

World: North, South Korea really freaking pissed at one another

The guy on the TV looks pretty angry. If you look at the soldiers, ten to one, also angry. If you look at North Korean soldiers right now, they’re probably angry too. source

Tech: Are Facebook’s privacy issues getting overblown by a mob mentality?

  • It’s completely out of hand, and it’s just another example of an online mob getting out of control. I’m embarrassed to see people I respect stopping one step short of calling for physical violence against Zuckerberg.
  • TechCrunch guy Michael Arrington • Regarding the seemingly high level of rage some have focused on Facebook and its founder Mark Zuckerberg, especially after these years-old messages leaked to the press. We’re with Arrington. We think people are completely overreacting and looking for a way to completely discredit the Facebook founder because they don’t like recent changes to his service. Granted, privacy is a weird thing with Facebook, but the backlash is just getting over-the-top. source
